The APRC selection of candidates for the Basse and Jimara constituencies in the Upper River Region by the APRC regional committee ahead of the National Assembly polls was yesterday suspended following a high tension which erupted in both Jimara and Basse respectively.
The incumbent for Basse Hon. Sellu Bah is being challenged by five aspirants namely Fatou Kandeh, a businesswoman from Basse Mansajang; Babucarr Jabbi of Basse Manneh Kunda, Momodou S. Camara of Basse, Muhammed Magassy of Sabi, and Abubacarr Krubally of Basse.
All the aspirants for the Basse constituency could not come to terms after hours of indoor meeting among themselves to give chance to one to be selected. Many locals particularly the Serahules, who are rallying behind Muhammed Magassy of Sabi are not ready to give chance, therefore calling on the incumbent to step down.
Speaking to this reporter after what was a chaotic suspended selection at the chambers of the Basse Area Council, Malang Fofo Sanneh, the secretary of the APRC regional committee said they have suspended the selection and will forward the matter to the APRC political bureau in Banjul for any further step. Asked to what he thinks is the reason behind the misunderstanding, he said this is because it is the first time that they have this number of aspirants.
Also speaking to this reporter, Fatou Kandeh, a businesswoman from Basse Mansajang who is one of the aspirants said there cannot be an agreement about the selection adding that they will go back home and wait for what will happen from the APRC bureau. In Jimara Constituency, the incumbent National Assembly member Hon. Mama Kandeh, is also been challenged by one Habibou Jawo and no agreement was able to me made too.
Meanwhile, the Daily Observer has been reliably informed that one Kasum Jallow has been selected to contest under the APRC ticket in Wuli West.
