A Group of Basse Diasporans Donate to Basse Health Center

The Basse Association (BA) in Diaspora on Saturday evening donated a truckload of medical drugs and beds, among other valuable items, to the Basse Health Centre, at a colourful ceremony held at the health centre premises. The latest donation is the first from the association, as it has been supporting schools in Basse, sponsoring football tournaments as well as helping to rehabilitate the Basse Central Mosque.

Speaking at the ceremony, Saibeh Drammeh, a member of the BA fundraising committee, assured that the Association will continue to support URR in general, while urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the items. For his part, Michael Secka, the BA representative in Basse, applauded members of the Association for the support rendered to the health centre, saying it will go a long way in addressing some of the problems faced by patients in the hospital.

For his part, Momodou S. Jallow, deputy governor of URR, thanked the BA for the gesture, describing it as timely and relevant. He noted that health is among the top priorities of the president, adding that the intervention of the Association shows that its members are patriotic, and also support government’s Vision 2020 blue print. Mariama Jaw, lady councilor for Basse Ward, expressed similar sentiments. She appealed to the association to continue to support the region.

Officially receiving the items on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Alhaji Omar Khan, governor of URR, thanked the Association for donating such valuable items to the Basse Health Centre. He said the health sector is among the top in the development agenda of the government under the leadership of President Jammeh. The URR governor warned against the sale of the drugs to pharmacies, saying that he will deal with anyone caught in the act. Baba Jeng, director of Regional Health Team in URR also spoke at the occasion.
